Conference Overview

The 9th Surgical Update and the 2nd Oman Trauma Conference is organized by the Oman Surgical Society. The mission of this conference is to offer a unique opportunity to gather the minds of surgeons across the world aiming to share the newest information and experiences. It provides an exceptional platform for surgeons in Oman to present the latest evidence related to their respective specialties.

The event will involve keynote international speakers who are well-recognized in their respective fields in terms of their contribution to medicine, research, and innovation, and who are inspirational leaders to surgeons.

This conference targets doctors from various surgical specialties, ranging from professors, consultants, specialists, house officers, residents, and interns. In addition, it targets medical students, nurses, and allied-health professionals, including pharmacists. The expected audience will be from various hospitals nationally and internationally, including GCC colleagues.

The conference aims to:

  • Present the latest and most up-to-date medical evidence in different sub specialties, focusing on the latest cancer-related research.
  • Present and discuss the latest evidence related to surgical technology and innovation that influences diagnostics and treatment, including robotic and minimally invasive surgical techniques.
  • Offer the means of discussing and establishing local practice guidelines in the most common disease processes encountered in Oman, including the first National Trauma Guidelines.
  • Allow surgeons in the country to present and discuss their own latest research in the field of surgery.
  • Facilitate the collaboration between national, regional, and international leader surgeons in areas of clinical practice, research, innovation, and training.
  • Provide the chance of having a round-the-table discussion between international trauma experts in the West and East, comparing the trauma systems used in different countries, which would allow us to establish the first Omani National Trauma Registry.
  • Identify areas of clinical practice in the country that require further research and improvement.
  • Inspire junior doctors and medical students to pursue a career in surgery, allowing them to explore research opportunities and network with surgeons from different sub specialties.
  • Encourage the collaboration between the wide spectrum of surgical health care providers. – Emphasize the culture of research and innovation to improve the quality of surgical services provided to the citizens and residents of Oman.
  • Establish the American College of Surgery – Oman Chapter, which will provide an important means of collaboration from surgeons and surgical bodies in the United States and from around the world.
